Clare Lodge Newcastle for St. Vincent de Paul

A design enriched by its setting between the Mourne Mountains and Irish Sea.

Synopsis

REQA partnered with St Vincent de Paul (SVP) to develop a new facility in the leisure sector designed to accommodate overnight stays whilst offering more spaces than previously existed. An idyllic site, the design had to maximise its surroundings, nestled between the beach and the busy Promenade enhanced further with views over the expansive Slieve Donard. The end-to-end service took the project from the demolition phase through design to construction management of the new purpose-built leisure facility.

Balancing a magnificent site with a challenging brief requires careful consideration to ensure every detail is well executed. The core function of accommodation requirements is achieved in 20 bedrooms, with views out to the sea or the mountains. We developed the potential of Clare Lodge by introducing commercial space (accessed off the Promenade), flexible space for catering or hosting conferences. This evolution transformed how SVP could operate in such a busy and attractive location.
