Delivering premium, practical, and built to last enhancements.
Synopsis
In 2025, REQA worked alongside Belfast International Airport to deliver a series of toilet refurbishments across three terminal locations and was one strand of an appointment to support with designs as part of a holistic upgrade project at one of NI's busiest transport hubs. The brief focused on balancing durability, accessibility with a premium finish, while aligning with previous upgrades in other locations with the airport’s evolving brand identity.
A simple and deliberate material palette underpins the design. Monochrome matte joinery elements (i.e. cubicle, sink vanity) provides a calm, strong backdrop, while solid-surface stone sinks and counters introduce a sense of refinement and longevity. Terrazzo flooring was selected for its durability and visual depth, complemented by mosaic wall tiles that add texture and scale at closer quarters. The aim was to create something modern and well considered yet wouldbe able to stand the test of time.
Bespoke bronze cladding is used sparingly to articulate key moments, elevating the overall composition while subtly integrating brand colour and way-finding into the architecture.
The existing layouts were largely retained, with targeted improvements to DDA compliance, new cubicles and vanity installations, and bespoke ceiling and lighting designs.Beyond the facilities themselves, surrounding circulation areas were enhanced to improve visibility, way-finding and passenger flow.
